A long drought for Canadians at their national championship could end on Sunday in Regina.

Canadian Brooke Henderson enters the final round of the 2018 CP Women's Open at the Wascana Country Club with a one-shot lead over Nasa Hataoka from Japan and American Angel Yin.

Henderson shot a two-under-par 70 in the third round on Saturday to move into position to become the first Canadian to win the national women’s open since Jocelyne Bourassa in 1973.

"Coming into this week, if you would have told me that (she would be leading after Saturday), I would have been very excited," said Henderson after her third round. "I'm definitely in a good position heading into the final round, which is very exciting, and I feel like these crowds this week have been totally amazing, and I've been playing well for them, so I'm happy about that."

It has seemed like destiny that Henderson would be the one to break the slump for Canadians at this tournament and she has done everything this week to put herself into position to win.

Henderson wasn't getting ahead of herself, however, "It's definitely a long way from that. There's like a million players within like five shots, so I definitely have to play my best and hopefully go low," she said.

The 20-year-old from Smith Falls, Ontario has been the centre of attention throughout the week and she has all eyes on her again for the final round.

Henderson tees off in a group with Hataoka and Yin at 9:01 a.m. Sunday morning.
