Earlier in the spring, the Saskatchewan government introduced an emergency measure that put a cap on the fees third-party delivery services could charge restaurants. The move was to help ensure restaurants could remain profitable while there is a push for people to choose delivery or takeout options over in-person dining due to the COVOD-19 pandemic.

Now, the cap is being extended, this time through legislation, and it will last through the summer.

The Supporting Saskatchewan Restaurants Act will keep the cap of 18 percent of the order price for services including delivery, and up to 10 percent when restaurants use a thirty-party app but the restaurant fulfills the delivery or customers choose a pick-up option. The cap applies to the pre-PST order price. The cap doesn’t apply to grocery stores or convenience stores.

The legislation will be in effect as of May 1st when the original emergency order was set to expire and will remain in place until August 31st.
