The Saskatchewan RCMP has 42 vehicles impounded for impaired driving during a three-day checkstop on Highway 11 in Chamberlain. 

The check stop took place from July 11 to 13 with about 4,500 vehicles being checked. 

Along with vehicles being impounded, there were 40 driver’s license suspensions for being impaired by cannabis, one suspension for being impaired by cocaine and one suspension for being impaired by alcohol. 

Seven tickets were issued for cell phone use while driving, 17 seatbelt tickets were issued, and 898 warnings were issued. 

Other results from the check stop included: 

  • Nine tickets for driving an unregistered vehicle. 
  • Four tickets for possessing or consuming cannabis in a vehicle. 
  • 189 tickets for various other offences (speeding, vehicle equipment violations). 
  • 13 vehicle inspections were issued. 
  • Four drivers with license suspensions. 
  • 31 vehicles taken off the road for various infractions such as no trailer brake or signal lights or no safety chains on a trailer. 
  • Two drivers were arrested on outstanding warrants. 
  • Three drivers driving without a valid license. 
  • Three people were charged under the Tobacco Act. One driver had over 10,000 cigarettes in the vehicle. 

The checkstop was conducted by the Saskatchewan RCMP along with Combined Traffic Services Saskatchewan and the Saskatchewan Highway Patrol.
