A luncheon was hosted by the Temple Gardens Hotel for Administrative Professionals Day.

It's a day to celebrate administrative professionals the world over and to give appreciation for all they do.

The guest speaker at the event was Captain Richelle Grocott with the Moose Jaw Fire Department. Grocott is the first woman to ever be hired for the Moose Jaw Fire Department, and her main message was educating people about being a fire fighter. And more specifically being a female fire fighter with the Moose Jaw fire department.

She spoke on some of the challenges she faced being the first female to break through, saying "It is, or was, an old boys club, and they were used to the way things were. Change is hard for anybody. That was quite an extreme change for them."

When asked why she does what she does, Grocott said "There's always the basic answer, everybody likes to help other people. But I enjoy the variety, the people to work with, I like the team environment. I like learning new things, using your hands, things like that."

Grocott described the steps to take if you are interested in pursuing a career in fire, stating "start by volunteering, go to a fire college. You need your fire. You need your ems. And then definitely start working out to pass your physical. We definitely train everyday. There isn't a day we don't train."
