It's the time of year when needs at local food banks tend to grow, and it's been a tremendous time of giving in southern Saskatchewan.

The Assiniboia Coop and Shaunavon Coop recently wrapped up their respective "Drive Away Hunger" campaigns.

And, to make the program more "interesting", the two competing Coop General Managers challenged each other to see which store could collect the most food.

Between August 25 and September 25, Southland Coop received 2431 pounds of donated food, compared to 1813 pounds in Shaunavon.

As the "loser", Shaunavon GM Kevin Braun had to pose for a picture wearing a Winnipeg Blue Bombers jersey, since that is Southland Coop GM Ken Bahaud's favourite CFL team.

The Salvation Army Food Bank in Assiniboia, which serves over 30 communities in southern Saskatchewan, will disperse food collected at  Southland Coop.
