Atley Calvert had two goals and three points to help lead the Moose Jaw Warriors to a 4-2 win over the Weyburn Wings in Game 1 of their first round Saskatchewan Bantam AA Hockey League playoff series on Wednesday night.

Calvert opened the scoring in the first period and put Moose Jaw up for good with a goal early in the second period as they cruised to the win at the Barkman Arena in Caronport.

Ethan Bachiu had a goal and two points, while Quinton Ross picked up two assists to power Moose Jaw to the win.

After Calvert’s opening goal, Weyburn tied the game on a power play goal from Rylan Erb with 47 seconds to go in the first period.

Moose Jaw took control of the game in the second period with Calvert scoring just over five minutes into the frame and then Bachiu making it a 3-1 game just past the midway point of the second.

Chase Lacombe extended the Warriors’ lead to 4-1 with 7:04 to go in regulation before Morgan Anderson scored a late goal for Weyburn.

Jaxsen Taupert picked up the win in goal for Moose Jaw, while the Warriors went 0-for-2 on the power play and 3-for-4 on the penalty kill.

Game 2 of the best-of-three series goes on Saturday in Weyburn with Game 3 back in Moose Jaw on Sunday at the Bert Hunt Arena, if necessary.

In other Moose Jaw Minor Hockey action on Wednesday night, the Moose Jaw Peewee AA Warriors finished off their regular season with a 10-0 loss to the first place Swift Current Broncos. Moose Jaw finishes the year with a 2-21-2 record.
