There's a number of ways to fall victim to a scam. Criminals have the Internet at their disposal, they can make anonymous phone calls, they can even ring your doorbell.

Being that it's Fraud Awareness month in March, Moose Jaw Police are doing their best to try and prevent us from becoming victims. Sergeant Cliff Froehlich says they get a few calls from people after getting unusual requests from strangers.

"Some of the contact that we are seeing is the Family Emergency. An individual will be contracted that there is a family emergency and they are asked to send money and of course there is no emergency and the money is never seen again."

Froehlich says the majority of fraudulent acts are now taking place online as criminals find it easier to prey on their victims. He adds the best way to guard against fraud, is to keep your personal information private.
