For what Monica Haakenson says is either the "7th or 8th year", Bobby's Place Olde World Tavern will host a Christmas dinner for "anyone" who might otherwise be alone on Christmas Day.

"It's Christmas Day...you need a dinner to lift your spirits," says Monica's husband Kevin. "Yes, there are people who are in need, but there are people who are here alone, people who may be stranded...staying in hotel rooms (and) there aren't restaurants open."

The Haakensons feel so strongly about hosting their Christmas dinner, they pass up time with their family in order to provide for others.

"We've got five grandchildren," says Kevin. "We don't see them Christmas Day anymore, we'll get (to see) them Christmas Eve."

"It really touches my heart," explains Monica. "Each year it's more and more that walk in (the) doors, so the need for (Christmas dinner) is growing. It's something I feel in my heart that needs to be done."

Bobby's Place will be open between 3-7pm on Christmas Day for the turkey dinner, and Kevin says the more the merrier.

"It's all free of course. We don't require anybody to pay money, donate anything...nothing.  Just come down, enjoy the company of other people (and) have a good time."

And, if you don't have transportation?  "Call the pub," Kevin says. "I'm driving around in my truck..I'll pick you up, take you to (dinner) and take you back home after you're done."  You can call Bobby's at 306-692-3058.

And on the off-chance that they run out of turkey, Kevin says not to worry. "We'll just put on some fish and chips."
