October has been deemed Breast Cancer Awareness Month, a time to learn more about the disease, educate the public on early detection and share easy preventative tips.

Kelsey Michaeluk, Cancer Control Coordinator for the Canadian Cancer Society explains more on the month.

"Breast is the most common cancer for women." explained Kelsey Michaeluk, Cancer Control Coordinator for the Canadian Cancer Society. "Basically the month is just about raising awareness and ultimately reducing the risk of getting cancer."

Kelsey says women in their 40's should speak to their doctor about mammograms, with women 50 plus recommended to get screened twice per year until age 69.
