The time of year that many campers look forward to is finally here.

Saskatchewan Provincial Park campgrounds are set to officially open for the season this Thursday.

“Opening weekend for provincial park campgrounds is always an exciting time for us,” Parks, Culture and Sport Minister, Gene Makowsky said.  “This year we are encouraging campers to get out to the parks early to make the most of the 2019 season.”

New this year, visitors can save $5 a night at any provincial park from May 16th through to June 24th on any electric, non-electric or economy campsite.

During the May long weekend, the alcohol ban will be in place once again, will now include cannabis, and applies to all campgrounds and picnic areas within provincial parks and recreation sites. The ban is also in effect at several regional parks.

Residents headed to Buffalo Pound Provincial Park could be disappointed to the see the former pool demolished, however, it was just last month that the province announced it won't be long before the family fun activity will return bigger and better. The Government of Saskatchewan announced that plans included in the 2019-20 budget are in motion to build a newly updated pool. Plans include two new buildings, a change-house and a building containing mechanical systems and admission services.
