It gives us something to look forward to - something to be excited about.  It shapes our lives and offers a chance to celebrate who we are.  It...is SPORT.

Sport can bring us together and unite us as a community and, over the years, I think curling does it best.  Whether you're a fan or not, you cheer for your hometown team.

Well, everyone in the province of Saskatchewan will be pulling for Moose Jaw's Penny Barker rink when they take to the pebbled ice in Thunder Bay at the end of this month for the Scotties Tournament of Hearts - the Canadian women's curling championship.

Barker and her team won the Viterra Scotties, the provincial title, yesterday at the Assiniboia Curling Club.

Barker beat Amber Holland 4-3 in an extra end to win the semi-final and then scored a 7-5 win in the championship game against Chelsea Carey.

The City of Moose Jaw and the Moose Jaw Ford Curling Centre will benefit every time they mention us during the coverage on TSN.  Hearts will swell with pride.

And, you know what?  Considering all we've been through over the past two years, Barker's championship could not have come at a better time.

Congratulations to the Penny Barker rink and many thanks - we needed that.
