So, it started off as a trip to Moose Jaw City Hall to pay the water bill but then, I thought, I could vote at the advance poll while I'm there.
I drove downtown around 1:30 yesterday afternoon and the line-up outside looked daunting. Parking was at a premium. I thought about postponing but then, I decided to move forward. I found a parking spot on High Street West, just around the corner. The parking meter was out-of-order so, you know what that means - free parking!
I soon found the line-up only looked long because locals were adhering to safe social distancing, standing two metres apart. Only a few people are allowed in the foyer at a time. There was hand sanitizer and a temperature check along with a short list of COVID-19 related questions to answer.
Then it was up to council chambers, on the elevator, one at a time, for the registration process to get the ballot from long-time, loyal CHAB listener Shirley Tillie.
City Hall staff then directed me to a voting station where they supplied me with a sanitized marker to fill in my picks.
I was then directed around the corner where I found my friend Larry Graham from the Moose Jaw & District Sports Hall of Fame. He put my ballot in a machine and ensured my votes were tallied.
It only took a few minutes, everyone was pleasant to deal with and I left feeling good about myself, about casting my ballot and thankful that I live in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan.
