Rolling Stones drummer Charlie Watts turned 80 years old this week.  The day before, his bandmate Ronnie Wood celebrated his 74th birthday.  Remarkable, really.

It got me thinking about how fortunate I was to see my favourite rock 'n roll band, live, at Mosaic Stadium, right here at home, back in October of 2006.  It was literally surreal to see Mick and Keith, Charlie and Ronnie.  No one ever thought The Stones would come to see us in Saskatchewan but there they were!

Keith Richards is my favourite Rolling Stone - my favourite rock star.  He just gets it.  He's got it.  He kills it.  He's got the moves.  He's got the timing.  Oh, and he'll be 78 years old later this year.

While I've seen The Stones but once, I have seen Keith perform live twice.

I was at Eric Clapton's Crossroads Guitar Festival at Madison Square Garden in 2013.  Clapton was joined by the likes or Robbie Roberston, Jeff Beck, Jimmy Vaughan, Buddy Guy and B.B. King.

Keith wasn't even on the schedule but he just happened to be in town so he showed up and played - a complete surprise to all in attendance.

The place went wild when he walked on stage.  He spoke one sentence before he played.  He said, "It's great to be back in this room."

Shivers.
