I'm not surprised but somewhat disappointed.

A new poll has found many Canadians would like us to drop the monarchy.  The poll was conducted by Research Co.  It found 45% of us would prefer an elected head of state instead of the Queen when it comes to Canada's constitution.

Research Co. tells us this preference is at an "historic level", up 13 percentage points from one year ago.

Only 24% are in favour of Canada remaining a monarchy with 19% saying they don't care either way.

I grew up with respect for the monarchy.  My family roots trace back to Great Britain - England and Scotland.

I've said it before, if you search for answers about why the monarchy is relevant in Canada, you'll find words like heritage and history and unity.  Character and values.  Tradition.  Integrity.  Honour.  Duty.  Freedom.  Glorious and victorious.

It's also interesting to note, we who support the monarchy would prefer Prince William over Prince Charles to take over as our future King.

Hear, hear!
