"Unfinished Business".  It's our Moose Jaw Warriors' marketing slogan for the new Western Hockey League Season.  I like it.  It's inspirational.  It sends a message to the players, the team, supporters and fans.  In fact, I'll take it as a promise that we'll be better and advance further into the playoffs than we did last year.

That's the catch.  Sports teams open themselves up to criticism and ridicule with some slogans. You see, if our team doesn't perform as well as last year, the slogan will have been a failure.

I remember one I really liked.  It was back about 25 years ago.  "Fast and Furious" was the slogan.  The boys liked it.  They used it for motivation every game and there was no pressure.

As I recall, the Warriors had a pretty good season that year but, of course, they were eventually eliminated from the playoffs.  So, the slogan the year after became "Payback Time".  You may recall, our team did not make the playoffs that season.  The joke came from season ticket holders, many of whom took the slogan to heart, quipping "Ya, payback time.  I want my money back."

"Unfinished Business".  There's no way that one can backfire, is there?
