It's troubling to me.  I have a hard time grasping it.  I've told you before and I'll tell you again - the money some of our best athletes are making is absolutely obscene.  I don't get it.

The Kansas City Chiefs signed their quarterback Patrick Mahomes to a 10 year contract extension worth $500 million this week.  $500 million!

Oh, he's good.  I love watching him play.  He and the Chiefs won the Super Bowl last season.  But, $500 million?

Google tells me the average price for a ticket to a Chiefs game last season was $233.  The top ticket goes for $2800.  We can assume the folks spending that kind of money for a ticket are living in the same neighbourhood as Mahomes.

I see a number of friends on social media are troubled by this as well.

One, a former junior hockey player writes, "Am I the only one shaking my head in disbelief that one athlete would be given $500 million in a time of world wide crisis?  Economies are shut down, unemployment skyrockets and destitution is everywhere -  how does this happen?  Do you think maybe, just maybe, we as a society have completely lost our moral compass?"

Yes, my friend, I believe we have.
