The early results from the poll on DiscoverMooseJaw.com surprise me.

Moose Jaw city council is discussing the possibility of lowering the speed limit downtown.  The proposal, brought forward last summer by the Downtown Business Association, would have the speed limit lowered to 40 km/h from 50 km/h on Main Street between Manitoba and Oxford Streets.

I don't even have to think about it.  I'm in favour.  In fact, I'd like to see the speed limit at 40 km/h throughout our downtown area.

I've seen enough accidents and near-misses to conclude, driving at 50 km/h on Main Street is dangerous, especially during winter.

With over 1400 local people responding within the first few hours of our poll going live, 72% of respondents disagree with that.  Some are even telling us why they disagree on the DiscoverMooseJaw.com Facebook page today.

I'm of the belief that we need to make a number of changes in our city to make it more pedestrian-friendly, especially downtown where we have thousands of tourists visiting year-round.

Agree or disagree, we'd like your input.  Tell us what you think.  The poll, again, is on DiscoverMooseJaw.com
