He said, "If you've ever been to a city that does this, you're excited...because this is going to be fun for the city and fun for tourists."

City councillor Jamey Logan was talking about a motion that passed unanimously last night in city council's executive committee.  They approved a plan that will allow downtown businesses to expand beyond city sidewalks and onto parking spaces for pop-up patios or boardwalks.

They do it in Regina, Saskatoon and Winnipeg and now Moose Jaw got off the porch to run with the big dogs.

This will be allowed from April through October with downtown businesses paying rental fees for the parking spots they want to use although, those fees will be waived this year to help promote the changes.

I like it.  Local restaurants can expand their capacity and bring even more people downtown.  It might just be like Sidewalk Days every weekend this summer.

I can envision it.  We'll be together to "listen to the music of the traffic in the city.  Linger on the sidewalk where the neon signs are pretty.  How can you lose?"

See what I did there?
