The surveys are done and the numbers are in.

How much will you and your family be spending this holiday season?

Think about that and compare yourself to the average Canadian family which will spend about $1300 on gifts, about $600 on decorations and $450 on food. That adds up to a $2350 celebration. Those numbers come from Statista.

They also found 74% of us feel inflation, the rising cost of goods, will have an impact on our ability to purchase gifts this holiday season.

Generation X will be spending the most in the coming days in Canada. Those of us aged 43 to 58 will spend about $2000 each while the Baby Boomers, those aged 59 to 73 will spend about $1550.

It's interesting to note, we Canadians are savvy shoppers. About half of us say we'll buy items on sale to help us stay on budget and about half of us admit we plan to purchase fewer gifts to avoid financial trouble in the new year.

What's more? 1% of respondents say they will not be buying any gifts for anyone this Christmas.

I think I know some of those people.
