My parents called me their "Surprise Package".  You see, they had me more than 8 years after they had their 3rd child.  Get it?  Got it?  Good.

My Mom was in her late 30s when she had me and my Dad was almost 41.

I've often wondered how they did it.  You see, when my Dad was my age, I was a mouthy, disobedient 16-year-old.  I knew everything.  You know the type?

Well, it dawned on me this weekend as a I reflected on a busy and productive couple of days.  I spent several hours mowing lawns and washing the car and sweeping out the garage.  You see, when my Dad was my age, he didn't have to do any of that.  I did it.  I looked after the grounds, kept his car clean and I swept out his garage.

It got me thinking, maybe he knew what he was doing, having a child at the ripe, old age of 41.  He'd have a kid to do the work when he got into his late 50s.

And now I'm thinking...maybe I wasn't a "Surprise Package" after all.
