It's fast and exciting and most entertaining.  It's Little League Baseball.

Thousands of locals are following our local Little League All Stars this week as they compete in the Canadian regional championships in Calgary.  Going into today our boys had a 4 and 1 record and they've secured a playoff spot.

You know, the local Little League organization has been solid since I was a kid, playing for the Pirates in the Moose Jaw National League.

I remember back in the late 70s, 1978 maybe, Moose Jaw hosted what was then the western Canadian championships.  We spruced up Memorial Field and erected a new outfield fence to comply with Little League dimensions.  The place was packed all week.

A number of my buddies were on the host team.  As I recall, the local kids made it to the final only to lose to the boys from Lethbridge.

They experienced the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat.

Those guys are in their late 50s now and they still talk about that tournament 44 years ago.

Win or lose, our local boys competing in Calgary this week are making memories and friendships that will last a lifetime.  And that is what it's all about.
