I believe I was 4 or 5 years old when I had my first and thankfully only extended stay in a hospital. I remember it.

I had pneumonia. It was a struggle. I was very sick.

I was in a room with another little boy whose bed was enclosed in a plastic bubble. He was critically ill and received a lot of attention from health care professionals. He slept most of the time, as I recall. He was hooked up to a number of machines.

I got better and went home within a few days but I recall my mom telling me that boy had passed away. It was my first lesson in mortality.

I'm thinking about that today as we play a role in raising money with the Jim Pattison Children's Hospital Radiothon.

Life is so precious and we can help save lives with a donation to the Radiothon.

You can chip in with one phone call:  1-888-808-KIDS or donate online at PattisonChildrens.ca
