Carnie's Comments

It's Throwback Thursday as we take a look back at some of the remarkable times we've had as we celebrate 100 years on the air at 800 CHAB.

Brushes with fame?  Oh, I've had many of them over the years.

We've welcomed many famous athletes and newsmakers and entertainers for some most memorable visits.

One guest I'll never forget was Mr. Dressup.  He was on a Canadian tour and putting on a show in Moose Jaw.  His people arranged an interview to promote the show and, of course. I took the assignment.

I was excited.  I grew up watching Mr. Dressup.  I loved him and Casey and Finnegan and the Tickle Trunk.

I was star struck when Mr. Dressup walked into the radio station.  There he was - in real life, standing in front of me.

I said, "Mr. Dressup!"

He said, "It's Ernie."

You see, his real name was Ernie Coombs.  he wanted me to call him Ernie.

We shook hands and went into the studio to record the interview.

I hit record and proudly said, "it's a pleasure to welcome Mr. Dressup to Moose Jaw!"

He interrupted and said, "Please, it's Ernie."

I was troubled.  I gathered my thoughts for a few seconds and said, "With all due respect, sir, I just can't call you Ernie.  You're Mr. Dressup."

We moved on and did the interview and exchanged pleasantries afterwards but, you know, I don't think he liked me.
