The Saskatoon Berries’ Carter Beck hit a walk-off grand slam home run in the bottom of the 10th inning for a 16-12 victory over the Moose Jaw Miller Express, taking their Western Canadian Baseball League East Division semifinal 2-1.

The game was originally scheduled to be played in Saskatoon on Friday, but was rained out and postponed to Saturday night.

Moose Jaw opened with a 3-0 lead after two innings of play. Eduardo Saenz scored off a hit by Robert Estrada. Pacey Phillips then singled to score Estrada, and Thomas Soto singled to centre field, with Phillips scoring off an error on the play.

Saskatoon tied the game 3-3 after the fourth inning. The Berries added two runs in the fifth and five in the sixth to take a 10-3 lead.

With their season hanging in the balance, the Miller Express scored nine runs in the eighth inning to take a 12-10 lead. Ben Waliczek singled to left field to drive in Estrada. Soto tripled to right field, bringing home Tanner DeGrazia, Phillips and Waliczek. William Edwards then singled to left field to score Soto.

Saenz added to the total with a three-run home run, bringing in Austin Gurney and Edwards. Estrada rounded out the scoring on a DeGrazia single.

However, Saskatoon scored two in the bottom of the ninth to tie it 12-12 and send the game to extra innings.

Moose Jaw went three up and three down in the top of the 10th. In the bottom of the inning, Beck hit a grand slam for the walk-off win, eliminating Moose Jaw from the playoffs.

The Berries move on to face the Regina Red Sox in the East Division final. Game 1 was Sunday evening in Saskatoon, with Regina taking an 8-7 win. Game 2 is Monday night in Regina.
