The value of the Canadian dollar is limiting profitability in the cattle business.

Brian Perillat, a market analyst with CanFax, says there are a number of key issues impacting the situation...

"Number one is the Canadian dollar. All the really good times in the cattle business were on sub 80 cent dollar. We're doing quite well given it's a 95 cent dollar, but we're just struggling to be competitive," he says.

While we saw a good price rally this spring, he says the question is whether that will carry through to the cow-calf market this fall.
