“On Wednesdays, we wear pink...”

The Central Collegiate senior girls’ basketball team hosted their Pink Game on March 1 to raise money and awareness for breast cancer.

“It was the girls’ idea,” explains Head Coach, Tanya McLean. “It hasn’t happened in a couple years, so they had asked about it. We thought ‘what a good idea to do some team bonding, raise some money for a great cause, promote girls’ basketball in Moose Jaw, and just involve the school and community in general.’”

Members of the Student Leadership Committee helped sell candy bags and pink glazed donuts, with all proceeds going towards the cause. A few members of the Senior boys’ basketball team also helped sell 50/50 tickets.

“[We raised] just under $500 total, between all the sales and the 50/50, plus generous donations from people attending the game.”

The girls decorated the school entrance and lounge with pink ribbons and balloons, and sold donuts to the students during their morning and lunch breaks leading up to the game, as well.

“We’re a team of young women, so we can all appreciate the impact that breast cancer has on us as a gender. We all know someone that has had it, or is experiencing it now, and how it could potentially affect any of us, at any point in our lives. It hits pretty close to home,” McLean adds.
