They're starting earlier this season and entertaining us football fans throughout the summer.  The Canadian Football League opens its 2018 season tonight with our Saskatchewan Roughriders slated to start it up on home turf vs. the defending Grey Cup champion Toronto Argonauts tomorrow night.

I understand not every football fan in Canada is a CFL fan, preferring the NFL.  I get that.  But, like many of you, I grew up a Roughriders fan and CFL stars were my heroes when I was a boy.

Over the years I had the pleasure of meeting a number of my idols.  I got autographs from Ron Lancaster and George Reed and many more.  I was loyal into the 80s when we went 11 years without earning a playoff spot.  If you're a long time Rider fan, you know exactly what I'm talking about.

The Saskatchewan Roughriders bring us together and keep us together as a proud province.  It's OUR team.

I don't think we're gonna win the Grey Cup this year.  In fact, I think the Argos will probably give our guys a lickin' tomorrow night.  But I'll be watching and pulling for our team.  Go Riders!
