The provincial government announced changes to the Board of Directors of eHealth Saskatchewan on Tuesday. The changes come in the wake of a report from the Office of the Saskatchewan Information and Privacy Commissioner into the data breach at eHealth in December of 2019 that stemmed from a ransomware attack on the Crown Corporation’s systems. The report was released on January 8th.

The new two-person board will be providing oversight of eHealth and will initiate an independent review of the governance, management and program operations at eHealth.

The new board chair is Denise Macza, the Associate Deputy Minister at the Ministry of Health the vice-chair is Ministry of Health Assistant Deputy Minister Billie-Jo Morrissette. The appointments to the board took effect immediately. In a written release, it was stressed the appointments do not reflect a lack of confidence in the previous board chair and members.

“Our government takes the protection of personal health information seriously and we are greatly concerned by the findings and recommendations presented in Mr. Kruzeniski’s report,” Minister of Health Paul Merriman said. “As committed, we are taking immediate action to address and review the governance, management and program operations at eHealth to ensure the organization responsible for protecting health information is meeting the serious expectations of Saskatchewan citizens.”
