The City of Moose Jaw is offering a Free Trees for Subdivisions program open to everyone living in Westheath, West Park, and Iron Bridge.

Many different kinds of trees are available, including Silver Maple, Amur Maple, Manitoba Maple, Alder, Paper Birch, Hawthorn,e Green Ash, White Ash, Spring Snow Crabapple, Pin Oak, Bur Oak, Japanese Tree Lilac, American Basswood, Little Leaf Linden, and Elm.

Sarah Regent is the Parks Gardener for the City of Moose Jaw, she explains why the program is focused on newer subdivisions.

"We focus on our recently developed areas because we do have a lot of trees in the older neighborhoods, and we do have a tree replacement program for when we remove trees. So we focus on the areas that have no boulevard trees."

Regent explains how you can get your tree.

"All you have to do to get a tree is fill out the application form which is available on www.moosejaw.ca and city hall. The application form is part of our brochure, so there's some information on the program like what size you can expect the trees, some details about the pickup of the trees that will be happening at the end of summer and a full list of trees to choose from. Fill it all in and submit it to us either in person or by email."
