Registration opened this week for winter recreation programming in Moose Jaw.

"The recreation guide came out this week. It includes everything that's happening this winter here in Moose Jaw to keep you active," said Moose Jaw's Recreation Services Manager Scott Osmachenko.

"We have our holiday schedule in there for fitness, swim, skate, all the new swim lessons, fitness classes, community association classes, Yara Centre programs starting in January. It also talks about outdoor rink programs, crokicurl, our indoor skating program and as well all the wonderful programs that are offered at the Moose Jaw Museum and the public library."

He notes swimming lessons and pickleball are by far the two most popular programs.

"Pickleball is North America's fastest growing sport and we are seeing that definitely in Moose Jaw with the construction of the outdoor courts. The popularity of that sport is definitely seen and we are offering pickleball five nights a week at Palliser Heights and Sunningdale schools. If you're looking at playing pickleball, we have advanced but we also have all ages and beginners. Whatever your level is, we have a date and a time for you."

Osmachenko encourages folks to register early as many programs are starting to fill up.

"There are some full classes in swim lessons. There are some full classes in pickleball and as well some of the other programs are starting to fill up. We just encourage everyone to find the right time for them that works into your schedule and register early."

In addition, city crews have been out flooding the outdoor rinks. The goal is to have those ready before the Christmas season. Osmachenko says if the lights are on, they are ready for use. The lights are currently on at the Elgin and Henleaze outdoor rinks as well as the skating oval in Wakamow Valley.

Crokicurl is also back this year behind the Kinsmen Sportsplex for both drop-in and league play.
