Rain overnight Saturday, mixed with the snow we received overnight, has made roads around the province a bit of a chore to drive on.

Locally, city plows are working hard but many of the roads are still covered with a healthy layer of snow and ice.

Darrin Stephanson is the director of public works and utilities.

"We send graders and front-end loaders out to start plowing yesterday in the late afternoon when the snow started coming in. Just to get ahead of what we thought was going to be a real significant snowfall. The night shift started as well last night and graders have been out overnight opening up the Priority 1 streets."

He says that of 10:00 am this morning, Nov. 9, progress was well under way.

"I would say that we've done most of the Priority 1 streets by now. They shouldn't need to be touched in the near future here, they're in pretty good condition even though the snow has continued to blow. So we're hitting the rest of the Priority 1 routes throughout the day and we hope to be moving on to the Priority 2 routes later this afternoon."
