A spokesperson at the City of Moose Jaw has confirmed that a vote on the City of Moose Jaw's landfill application was held June 18 - and the answer was 'no'.

Discover Moose Jaw News reached out to staff at the Rural Municipality of Moose Jaw 161 office, located on Caribou Street West at the Regional Municipal Plaza and received the following statement:

"I can confirm that the RM of Moose Jaw Council have voted to deny the Solid Waste Disposal Facility Discretionary use application."

The City of Moose Jaw has issued a statement regarding the results of the vote.

“While we are disappointed with the decision, we thank the R.M. of Moose Jaw for considering our application and are grateful for the dialogue over the last year to find a solution to manage waste,” said Maryse Carmichael, City Manager.

“Securing a location for a new facility is critical because the ability to safely manage waste at our existing landfill decreases every year. We are currently reviewing options on how to move forward. We will bring a report on the matter to Moose Jaw City Council in the coming weeks.”
