A traumatic event can take many shapes and forms, whether it be work-related or personal and it can effect everyone differently.  As such, workplaces need to be prepared to deal with a traumatic event.

That was being discussed Thursday during a presentation for the Saskatchewan Association of Human Resource Professionals by Donna Blondeau and Corporal Kevin Pilsworth of the Moose Jaw Police Service Trauma Response Team.

Blondeau says dealing with trauma has evolved over her 15 years in the field. "When I first received training in critical incidents, stressed briefing and peer support, at that time I don't think it was felt that it was necessary. Now, we've got to the point or we're getting to the point that we're learning that it's effecting, it's necessary and we need to try and keep our people healthy."

Pilsworth added that early-education is key because people won't know to ask for trauma services if they don't know they're there.
