snow plow 2

The clean up is underway after a major dump of snow this weekend across the province.  It wasn't as nasty as we were expecting but there were still some problems after the storm.

Highway conditions were rough at times Saturday as blowing snow reduced visibility and made travel difficult.  Members of the Saskatchewan Roughriders called off their appearance at a fundraiser here in Moose Jaw as a result.

In the city, there are some trouble spots due to snow drifts and crews are out with the plows but for the most part, the main roads are in pretty good condition.

This weekend was probably one of the busier of the season for the City of Moose Jaw snow removal crews after the snow storm. Public Works manager Duane Grado says the milder winter we've that so far has meant some savings in the snow removal budget.

"The 2012 budget has an allocation of $127,000 for the sanding program and then for the snow operations, which is the major part, we have $394,000.  Since January 1st we've spent in the neighbourhood of $50,000 so you can see we've spent somewhere around 10% or so."

Grado adds that any left over funds are presented to City Council and then normally added the Snow Removal Reserve Fund which was needed last year with the high snowfall numbers.
