The city of Moose Jaw has decided to hire within for the Manager of Economic Development position. 

The city held an open contest throughout the summer months and ultimately decided that Jim Dixon, who was previously the interim Economic Development Officer, was the best suited for the job. 

“We searched across North America and we're thrilled that our best candidate was internal. To have someone with Jim’s extensive experience, education and connections fill this valuable role is huge for Moose Jaw,” said City Manager Jim Puffalt in a written release. “Jim has been aggressively working to attract and facilitate investment in the City of Moose Jaw, and we believe he’s the right person to help us change the narrative about what our City can accomplish.”

On top of being a former city councillor for three terms between 1982-1991, Dixon also has a long list of distinctions. Including his Ec.D. (F) from the Certified Economic Developer Fellowship Economic Developers Association of Canada and his CEcD from the Certified Economic Developer International Economic Development Council.

He was also Regional Enterprise Manager for Enterprise Saskatchewan, Regional Development Coordinator for Saskatchewan Enterprise and Innovation / Regional Economic and Co-operative Development, and the Strategic Development Officer for Moose Jaw Regional Economic Development Authority over the span of a decade. 

“There is a great opportunity for our City and I feel like we’re on the cusp of some positive developments,” said Dixon in a written statement. “I’m honoured to be chosen to continue in this role and help show the world why they should be investing in our City and our people.”

Dixon was hired as the interim and part-time basis Economic Development Officer in July of 2017 and was officially hired for the Manager position in October of 2018.
