Thanks to overwhelming support from the community, Hunger in Moose Jaw is able to supply lunches for Children as well as have an office to run its services out of.
The organization wrapped up its I Bought a Lunch campaign on Friday. Although there are still a few last-minute donations to be counted, Hunger in Moose Jaw surpassed its goal of $50,000.
Sharla Sept, executive director of Hunger in Moose Jaw, what the funds will go towards.
“We raise funds that go directly into our Child Nutrition program, which is the lunch program that feeds all the schools within the Moosejaw community,” Sept said.
Through the program, every dollar donated will supply one lunch for a young person in the community.
But that wasn’t the only piece of good news for the organization, as they also had new flooring installed at the Hunger in Moose Jaw office.
“We're usually raising funds for lunch money, but we do have a building to maintain, so we were looking to do some upgrades. Our floor was past the point of repair and we just needed a new one,” Sept said.
Funding for the new floor came from the Moose Jaw Co-op's Fuel Good Days that took place back on Sept. 15, when 10 cents per litre at all Co-op Gas Bars in the city went to charity. Twenty-five charities applied for the funding and the Co-op chose Hunger in Moose Jaw.
The Fuel Good Day campaign raised over $12,000 for Hunger in Moose Jaw for renovations.
