George Wesley Down

April 24, 1915 – April 24, 2013

Wes passed away on his 98th birthday at Extendicare in Moose Jaw. Wes is survived by his wife Dorothy Gunn; sisters Leona –Washington and Gloria – Lethbridge; children John (Diane) – Calgary, Bill (Arlene) – Regina, Ron (Wendy) – Monarch, AB; step-children Carolyn (Mark) Clark – Coaldale, AB, Barb McIntyre (Larry Marr) – Moose Jaw, Neil (Laurie) Gunn – Moose Jaw; 14 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Wes was born on his parent’s farm at Hargrave, MB. He joined the RCAF in 1942 and became a wireless air gunner stationed overseas. He worked for 10 years on the oil rigs in Estevan and 20 years with Kessinger Petroleum in Alberta. He spent many hours watching baseball and curling on TV. The family would like to thank the staff at Extendicare for their wonderful care in the past two years. We extend an extra thank you to Myles for his excellent care and patience. Wes referred to him as “The Boy”. A Memorial for Wes will be held at a later date. In living memory of Wes, a memorial planting will be made by W. J.
