Environment Canada says we’re under a winter storm watch in southern Saskatchewan, resulting from a low pressure system in Montana moving our way.

From Saturday morning through Monday night, some southern parts of the province are expecting snowfalls between 25 and 35 cm, with winds gusting between 60 to 70 km/h.

"The bulk of the precipitation will move through the province Saturday night through Sunday, and start to taper off from southwest to northeast late in the day on Sunday," said Terri Lang, meteorologist with Environment Canada.

Moose Jaw should see around 10 cm of snow starting Saturday afternoon, with most of that expected to arrive during the overnight period through Sunday morning.

People should avoid travel, if possible, as there could be near blizzard conditions with reduced visibility resulting from the heavy and blowing snows.

The snow is expected to start in the southwest part of the province on Saturday morning.
