Electric car owners gathered with their vehicles yesterday in front of the legislature in Regina to protest a new tax.
Members of the Saskatchewan Electric Vehicles Association voiced their displeasure with an annual $150 levy on electric vehicles that was introduced in the budget this past Tuesday.
Finance Minister Donna Harpauer said the tax is for highway maintenance - something gas-powered vehicle owners contribute to through taxes on fuel.
Protestors were calling for consultation before taxation.
Great gathering today at the Saskatchewan Legislature today. Let's start a real conversation about tax fairness for EV's and the fast charging infrastructure required. Consultation before taxation. @TeslaOwnersSK @saskevca pic.twitter.com/FZMlC1W2jR
