October is almost a week old and with how unusually warm it was in September across Moose Jaw; some may wonder if that will continue through the month.

Environment Canada’s Terri Lang says that currently October is forecasted to be warmer and drier than average.

“It will be notably a warmer and drier month with a higher percentage,” says Lang “It’s going to come in as another warm and dry month.”

The daily mean temperature for October in Moose Jaw is 5.6 degrees, with an average high of around 12 degrees. In terms of rainfall, Moose Jaw usually sees around 13.2 millimetres in October.

Moose Jaw residents will begin to experience more overnight lows that are below zero for the first time this fall. Wednesday night is expected to get down to –5 degrees, with the windchill bringing it further down to –9. Thursday night is forecasted to be warmer but still a low of –1.

Lang adds that residents should enjoy the warm daytime highs this week, as temperatures will begin to drop next week.

“There’s a big cold front that’s expected to sweep through probably Monday or Tuesday and that’s going to usher in significantly colder air. There will be a lot of wind with it and we may see some precipitation, but people are really going to notice it because it’s been so warm and dry.”

She did want to reassure people that the rain that is forecasted will not turn into snow, as it’s too early with not enough moisture and a lengthy injection of cold air.
