A Facebook page has been set up to help connect Moose Javians with Ukrainian newcomers.

Christy Schweiger saw there was a need to connect newcomers with those who wanted to help.

"Because I'm quite versed in working on Facebook and creating pages, I thought there was a need to specifically design a page for the needs of Ukrainian newcomers. It was through that effort that I've been able to connect with other Moose Javians and volunteers and people that help newcomers and it's been quite a learning curve," she said. "We've put together a working group of people in our community who are very passionate about helping just the specific needs of Ukrainian families and we've been starting to help them with all aspects from finding host families to helping them figure out how to get housing in our community."

The Facebook page can be found by searching Ukraine help and exchange in Moose Jaw.

The group currently has over 360 members.

"There's so many people that want to help that you have to have a lot of organization skills to coordinate a move," added Schweiger.

She says the one thing that is really needed is host families for about a month to help the Ukrainian newcomers get settled in the community.
