It's finally here, Family Literacy Day has arrived and with it family literacy week.

It's meant to focus on the importance of reading and engaging in other literacy activities with your family.

Gwen Fisher is the head librarian at the Moose Jaw Public Library, she details different activities that can improve literacy.

"Baking can be literacy. You can measure things out, your child could read out the ingredients. Any type of activity can turn into a literacy activity, and it can turn into fun. Board games are a really, really fun way to share that family literacy."

Fisher noted that there are also many different kinds of literacy.

"ABC Literacy, the Province of Saskatchewan, and the Moose Jaw Literacy Network here would all agree that there are so many types of literacy. A lot of the things we do with our children or even in our daily life we don't consider literacies but they really are."

The Moose Jaw Public Library is also hosting a Family Games Night on Tuesday, January 28th from 6-8:30 pm, to celebrate Family Literacy Week.
