With the help of The South Central Food Security Network's application to Community Futures, the Moose Jaw Farmers Market has been given a grant of $1000 for expansion uses.

The South Central Food Security Network decided to apply after hearing community interest in the market from the 2014 Vision 20/20 Food Forum. Though Community Futures does not usually give out grants they believed it was a good endeavor for the community.

"The group approached us," said Cory Harkness, a Business Development Officer for Community Futures, "looking for some financial support for... an expansion of the existing farmers market, looking for equipment and...facilities. And we thought it was something that was great for the community so we decided to help support (it)."

Farmer's Market secretary and spokesperson and owner of the Green Sister Garden's Booth Keri Fox says that the grant is needed for their increase in business.

"From what (I've) seen in my sales it's been probably about a 20-30% increase from last year."

Fox says the main plan for the grant money is to fund seating area for customers to sit, relax and eat in while visiting the market.
