Nearly a quarter of a million dollars was raised through the annual Christmas tree auction and gala event in Moose Jaw.

The final numbers are in and what a night for the Moose Jaw Health Foundation!

The annual Festival of Trees, held Saturday night, brought in a record-breaking $225,000 to help improve care at the Union Hospital. That money goes towards the purchase of new "Intensive Care Monitors".

Health Foundation Executive Director Kelly McElree says the Rider Tree in the auction was the hot item.

"Alfred's in Regina donated a Rider tree. First it went for a very large sum of money in our auction by Mosaic and then they donated it back and then Murray GM bought it, so that was a special moment."

McElree credits all of his volunteers for the success of the event and the generosity of the local community.
