Of the 65 cases reported in the South-Central zone, 43 are located in the sub-region 'South-Central 2' which is comprised of Moose Jaw and the surrounding area

5 deaths in relation to COVID-19 were announced on Tuesday, along with 153 new cases, and 120 recoveries.

One of those who died, one was in the south-central region, two were in Regina, one in the north-central zone, and one in the northeast. All were in the 80+ age group.

Of the 153 new cases, 39 are in Regina, 33 in Saskatoon, 14 are in the north-central zone, 13 in the central-east, 13 in the northwest, eight in the far northwest, six in the far northeast, six in the southeast, five in the northeast, one in the central west, and one case in the south-central region. 14 new cases are pending resident information.

3,057 cases are considered active, and 166 people are in hospital with 135 receiving inpatient care and 31 are in intensive care

The government of Saskatchewan also provided the following information regarding vaccine distribution:

"As of January 5, a total of 4,254 doses of Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine have been provided in Saskatchewan. The majority of those doses are accounted for within our pilot project, which is completed in Regina and nearing 90 per cent completion in Saskatoon. Planning for second dosages in the pilot program is well underway and further details will be released in the coming days.

The province expects a shipment of vaccines to be received in Prince Albert this week to allow vaccinations for eligible health care staff, long term, and personal care home residents in the area to begin.

Vaccination of long-term care residents and health providers began this morning in Saskatchewan’s Far North. The first Moderna vaccinations were provided in Île-à-la-Crosse to Registered Nurse Brittany Favel and her grandfather Jimmy Favel who is a resident in Île-à-la-Crosse Long Term Care. Vaccinations also started in La Loche this morning, as part of the roll-out in the Far northwest zone.

There are 153 new cases of COVID-19 to report in Saskatchewan on January 5, 2021, bringing the provincial total to date to 16,520 cases.

Vaccinations in Prince Albert for eligible health care staff, long term and personal care home residents are expected to begin later this week."
