Craik RCMP says five semi-trucks were involved in two separate accidents on Highway 11 between Girvin and Davidson.

The first accident occurred around 3:15 a.m. Thursday morning when a semi collided with a second parked semi on the highway. A third semi then collided with them and a fire broke out. According to the RCMP, the drivers only sustained minor injuries.

Meanwhile, five kilometres south of the first accident, a semi-truck collided with another parked semi. One of the drivers were taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries while the other driver was not injured.

“Road conditions were extremely icy early this morning but have now improved significantly,” says Sgt. Robb Karaim from the Craik RCMP. “We still ask that motorists continue to drive with caution. In particular, please slow down on Highway #11 between Girvin and Davidson, as RCMP and other emergency service workers are still investigating the collisions and cleaning up the scene.”

While all of this was happening, a Davidson Volunteer Fire Department truck rolled over while responding to the accidents with two firefighters inside the vehicle. One of the firefighters was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries while the other firefighter was reportedly not injured.

The highway has since reopened, but traffic is being guided through by RCMP officers so motorists could expect significant delays.
