Megan Patterson was born and raised in Moose Jaw and has a lineage in politics.

She’s is now throwing her hat into the political ring after winning a contested Saskatchewan Party nomination in the Regina-Lakeview riding.

Patterson’s father George is a retired lawyer in Moose Jaw and her mom Colleen was a long-time teacher in the city.

Patterson is the granddaughter of Albert Horner, who represented The Battlefords under John Diefenbaker’s Progressive Conservative Government.

She explains what she’s been up to since graduating from Riverview Collegiate.

“I went to school at the University of Saskatchewan and I have a commerce degree,” Patterson said.

“After I graduated from commerce I took a job in Toronto with Proctor & Gamble. When I graduated in 2000 there really wasn’t much opportunity in the province.”

The riding of Regina-Lakeview has been a strong-hold for the Saskatchewan NDP for many years. John Nilson was the NDP MLA for the riding from 1995 to 2016, being re-elected five times.

The seat is currently being held by the NDP’s Carla Beck.

“I think it is going to be a tough race. I think it is doable though,” Patterson said.

“I think I’m a candidate with a lot of the same concerns that are brought up. I care about education. I have three young boys, I care about quality education.”

Patterson said other issues will be investing in vital services in healthcare and having a strong balance sheet, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic.
