Former Moose Jaw couple Jane and Ron Graham have donated $5.9 million to the University of Saskatchewan.

The Grahams lived in Moose Jaw until the earlier 1980s, where they ran Graham Construction.

The donation includes $3 million for Huskie Athletics, $1 million for the Vaccines and Infectious Disease Organization (VIDO), $1 million to the College of Education and $900,000 for the College of Engineering.

“Jane and I have always had a passion for helping students and signature areas at USask,” Ron Graham said in a press release.

“Giving to Huskie athletes, funding innovative research, and enhancing teaching and career prospects is something we are proud to support.”

The Grahams are the largest cumulative alumni donors in the University of Saskatchewan's history.

The donation to the Huskies Athletics program will include $1 million each to the football program and the men’s and women’s basketball teams. The funds will go towards scholarships, equipment, coaching support and travel for international competitions and skill development.

The gift of $1 million to VIDO will help fund a new animal housing facility, and upgrading areas of the facility to Level 4 containment so researchers can study all existing and emerging infectious diseases.

The College of Education gift will support the Jane and Ron Graham Centre for the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning.

Finally, $900,000 will go to the College of Engineering with $500,000 going towards the development of the newly launched RE-ENGINEERED program for first-year students. The Ron and Jane Graham School of Professional Development will receive $400,000 to support a project coordinator to monitor and evaluate the initial outcomes of the RE-ENGINEERING program.
