Friend, Arthur

On April 24, 2013 at the age of 76, Arthur Friend, a much loved husband, father, grandpa and friend left this earth to be with the Lord. Art was predeceased by his father and mother, Fred and Fern Friend and his mother-in-law Delia Genest and father-in-law Jim Lust. Art leaves to mourn his passing his beloved wife and best friend Bernadette, their three cherished children Joanne Faulkner, Jason Friend and Shelley McAmmond, his amazing daughter in-law Dwyla (Adelman) and two wonderful sons-in-law Jim Faulkner and Darren McAmmond. He also leaves to mourn their six grandchildren, who were the pride of his life: Jolene Durie (Jerrod), Jenny Faulkner, Janelle Faulkner, Tyrel McAmmond, Jenae McAmmond (Kelsey Peterson) and Broden McAmmond. Art is the oldest of his five siblings who also mourn his passing. Art was born in Rosetown on November 11, 1936 and grew up in Herschel, Saskatchewan. He married Bernadette (Lust) in Rosetown on September 3, 1960. Art and Berny lived in Swift Current where their three children were born. They moved back to Rosetown in 1972 and Art spent 15 years with Western Sales (John Deere). In 1985 Art sold his interest in Western Sales and took up his life passion, farming in the Pense area. In 1999 they moved to Moose Jaw. Art mastered many things in his life including, sobriety, wind-surfing, building the family cabin, obtaining his pilot’s licence and tennis. Art treasured his time with his grandchildren and family. His sense of humour and his kindness are great memories. He gained strength and peace from the support shown by his family and friends throughout his journey with cancer. His humour and positive attitude made it easier for his family to face this journey with him.   It was a blessing to have the compassion and kindness of the nurses from the Moose Jaw Palliative Home Care Team. A Memorial Service for Art’s family, and interment in the Rosetown Cemetery, will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed to the Children’s Wish Foundation of Canada Saskatchewan Chapter, 3602 Millar Ave, PO Box 309, Saskatoon, SK, S7K 3L3, a cause close to Art’s heart as his own grandson benefited from this worthwhile gift.
