Goals late in the first period and early in the second period ended up sinking the Moose Jaw Generals on Wednesday night in the Queen City.

Moose Jaw dropped their first game of the season in regulation, losing 3-0 to the Regina Pat Canadians in Saskatchewan Midget AAA Hockey League action at the Cooperators Centre.

Tyler Lees scored a shorthanded marker with 1:13 to go in the first period and then Bryce Platt added to the lead 25 seconds into the second period. That would be all the offence that Regina would need as the Generals struggled to get going offensively in the loss to the defending league champions.

Matthew Chekay added another goal in the third to seal the win for Regina.

Hunter Arps stopped 27 shots in the loss, while Curtis Meger was forced to make 21 saves for the shutout.

Moose Jaw went 0-for-6 on the power play.

The Generals return to the ice on Saturday when they host the Saskatoon Blazers at Mosaic Place. Puck drops at 1:30pm.
